Company Ramps Up Commercialization of ControlRad Trace, an FDA-cleared Technology to Reduce Radiation Exposure During Fluoroscopically Guided Procedures
ATLANTA, GA—(BUSINESS WIRE)—ControlRad, Inc., a privately held medical technology company focused on dramatically reducing unnecessary radiation exposure during fluoroscopically guided procedures (FGP), today announced several additions to its leadership team. Joining are Peter Pizzo as chief financial officer, Amy Lazarus as vice president of USA operations, Joe Ross as vice president of marketing, and Sean Finnerty and Tim Hein as area vice presidents of sales. The industry veterans bring considerable experience leading businesses and introducing new products in the medical device industry.

ControlRad Trace is a recently FDA-cleared technology that can be integrated into existing mobile C-arms to reduce radiation in any FGP. It reduces radiation exposure by a minimum of 50% and up to 89%, protecting patients and medical staff without compromising image quality or workflow.1
Peter Pizzo, Chief Financial Officer
Pizzo has more than 25 years of experience in senior financial roles with venture-backed and public life science companies. Most recently, he served as CFO of Cartiva, Inc. until its purchase by Wright Medical. Previously, he was CFO of Proxima Therapeutics, Inc., and Serologicals Corporation. He currently serves on the board of directors of Alimera Sciences, Inc., where he chairs the audit committee and is a member of the nominating and corporate governance committee. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration/accounting from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.
Amy Lazarus, Vice President of USA Operations
Lazarus has broad industry experience and a reputation for developing operational infrastructure and processes, building teams, and running P&Ls. She began her career at General Electric in the Manufacturing Management Program, and she went on to hold a variety of roles including General Manager of the Interventional Service business overseeing products in Cardiology, Angiography, Neurology, Electrophysiology & IT. She also led GE Healthcare’s Global Service Integration initiative before joining ArchPoint Consulting as a partner, later becoming managing director. There, her client focus included strategic planning, M&A, and post-merger integrations for companies in healthcare, pharma, energy, emergency services and advanced engineering materials. Lazarus holds an Executive M.B.A. from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management and a B.S. in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech.
Joe Ross, Vice President of Marketing
Ross has worked for nearly 25 years in the medical device industry, holding senior leadership positions at both private and public companies. Most recently, he served as general manager of the spine division of Zimmer Biomet. Additional experience includes executive vice president of global marketing for LDR Spine through its successful initial public offering and sale to Zimmer Biomet. Previously, Ross also held sales and marketing positions of increasing responsibility with DePuy Spine, a Johnson and Johnson company. Ross earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Management from Troy University.
Sean Finnerty, Area Vice President of Sales – East
Finnerty has worked for nearly 15 years in the medical device industry, holding senior sales leadership positions at both private and public companies. Prior to joining ControlRad, Finnerty was national sales manager at Cartiva, Inc., where he was responsible for the commercial launch of the first ever FDA-approved Synthetic Cartilage Implant for the treatment of great toe arthritis and was part of the leadership team that executed the acquisition by Wright Medical. Earlier in his career, Finnerty held sales leadership positions with Stryker, Carticept Medical, Inc, and Integra LifeSciences. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Naval Academy and is a combat veteran.
Timothy Hein, Area Vice President of Sales – West
Hein has worked for more than 25 years in the medical device industry, holding senior sales leadership positions at both private and public companies. Before joining ControlRad, Hein was vice president of sales for Paradigm Spine until the company was acquired by RTI Surgical. Previously, he served as west area vice president of sales at LDR Spine and held sales leadership positions with Kyphon/Medtronic, Depuy Spine and Ethicon Endo-Surgery. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and Master of Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University. He served as an active duty Army Officer for six years.
